Cape Town – Lerato Moipone Molapo, best known as ‘Lira’, is recovering in South Africa after she suffered a stroke while away for a performance in Germany.
Lira’s family said in a statement on Tuesday night that the stroke had affected her ability to communicate.
“As Lira’s family, we would like to take this opportunity to share some recent developments regarding Lira’s health. Lira recently travelled to Germany for a performance but unfortunately suffered a stroke while there. As a result, her ability to communicate, in particular her speech, has been impacted,” the family said.

The family said that she was undergoing treatment in South Africa.
“She is currently undergoing treatment here in South Africa, led by the best medical team available. Her medical team has advised that her journey to recovery will require patience and therefore, it is unlikely that she will be able to perform in the short term,” said the family, adding that she was in “good spirits”.
Lira’s fans took to Twitter to wish her a speedy recovery.

Lira is in hospital after a stroke while she was in Germany.
According to the statement received.
She is back in Mzansi and said to be recuperating.
