Cape Town – Veteran South African musician and producer, Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala, is celebrating the remix of one of his timeless classics, “I Need Some Money” despite being unfamiliar with the international artist behind the remake.
In an exclusive interview with The Citizen, Chicco revealed that he first caught wind of the remix through his publisher at Gallo Music. “I normally get information from Gallo my publisher, they told me last year already,” he shared.
Reflecting on the remix, Chicco admitted, “I don’t engage with artists, my publisher takes care of that. I don’t know who the artist is, if it’s a he or she.”
His classic song has been remixed by a Los Angeles based DJ and producer Mia Moretti, who was only two when the song was released in 1986. Moretti described her take on the song as ‘Afro-disco-bubblegum-boogie-summertime’.
When asked about his impression of the remix, Chicco expressed genuine enthusiasm, affirming its potential for success in both the US and European markets. “It sounds good, I think it’s good for the US and Europe market,” he remarked. His confidence in the remix is further bolstered by his belief in the artist’s understanding of their audience.
