Cape Town – Five new multimillionaires emerged in South Africa after a Powerball draw on April 5, marking the first time so many jackpot winners were recorded in a single draw, according to Ithuba.
Three players won the Powerball jackpot, while two jointly won the Powerball Plus draw.
The Powerball winners shared a R131 million jackpot prize, each walking away with almost R45 million, while the Powerball Plus winners received a little over R17 million each.
Among the winners was a woman who had been playing the same numbers for eight years, a 35-year-old who plans to keep working, and another winner with plans for charitable giving.
“My message to other people out there is that if you don’t play you can’t win,” said the 35-year-old winner.
One of the Powerball Plus winners is a doctor who intends to continue working and use the money for house renovations and charitable donations.
Ithuba’s CEO Chairmane Mabuza said that the event not only changed the lives of the winners but also highlighted the lottery’s role in uniting and uplifting the nation.
“This remarkable event not only changes the lives of the winners but also illustrates the diverse reach of the lottery, affirming its role in uniting and uplifting our nation,” Mabuza said.
