Cape Town – Iconic brand, Plascon has refurbished the brand new year with a brand new colour combination that is inspired by the hues of Africa.
The coatings paint giant welcomed the year on a colourful note, literally, with three shades of colours that when combined create an idyllic space of harmony.
Speaking to African Insider, the head of Marketing, Suvasin Moodley says people are often drawn to divine colours.
“Often, trends that filter down to us from Europe or the USA are designed for that context, and not an African reality. Here, we are bringing together colours that reflect the way we live here, and that are created with Africa in mind,” he says.
Plascon has been a giant colour coatings magnet since its inception, 130 years ago when its founder Herbert Evans – a young Welshman – arrived in the shanty mining town of Johannesburg with a cart, ladder, paintbrushes and his passion for painting.
Colour is emotive. It evokes emotions in us that alter our moods from gloom to total bliss.
“The Colour Combination for 2022 works in a 60:30:10 ratio,” says Moodley.
“This aligns with best design practices that the industry utilises, which suggests that 60% of a space should consist of a dominant colour, 30% a secondary colour, and 10% an accent colour.”
He says Plascon has, therefore, made it easier for architects, interior designers, decor professionals and members of the public alike to adopt this approach and tastefully achieve a well-considered look.
The colour combination is suitable for both interior and exterior schemes.
Moodley says the three shades explore various elements of nature, the dominant colour being Pear Fantasy, which represents 60% of the ratio.
“This soft yellow-green makes for a modern, neutral shade while being comfortingly familiar. Capturing the soothing charm of a sandy shore at sunrise, this shade instantly puts our minds at ease and enlivens our spaces,” says Moodley.
The second runner-up to the colour combination is Desert water, which constitutes 30% of the ratio.
Grounded colour
This one he says is a calming and uplifting pale blue hue with an illuminating touch of purple. Inspired by the sunlit surface of tranquil water, this shade is subtle yet impactful, perfectly complementing the neutral Pear Fantasy.
“Lighter blue shades are associated with health, healing, tranquillity, and softness,” he says.
The last to complement the colour combination is Zanzibar, which represents a 10% ratio.
Moodley says it is a soft yet grounded colour.
He says it captures the fresh soil and majestic tree trunks of an early morning trail. Therefore, it brilliantly accentuates the Plascon Pear Fantasy and Plascon Desert Water.
Evans re-invented the coatings industry by pioneering world-firsts in the paint industry.
Today, the company offers three coatings categories which are: decorative coatings, industrial coatings, and automotive coatings.
