About 50 000 women entrepreneurs on the continent are set to benefit from a new training programme.
The EmpowerHer initiative is being steered by Mastercard and international NGO Women Choice, which successfully ran the pilot programme in 2023, reports Africa Business Communities.
The programme will offer training and mentorship to women entrepreneurs with the ultimate goal of creating 1 million jobs for women by 2030. It is hoped that the participation of the 2024 cohort will ultimately benefit 50 000 women.
Amnah Ajmal, regional executive vice-president of market development for Mastercard, says the partnership with Women Choice ‘will not only have a significant impact on women in the workplace across the region, but also provide women entrepreneurs with the right skills, resources and tools to succeed and drive economic growth in the region’.
Training covers social entrepreneurship and fundraising; business development; HR and recruitment; job readiness; collaboration and partnerships; and branding and social media marketing, according to Women Choice.
