Children at 57 early childhood development centres across the country are to receive nutritious meals and books as part of a plan to mark World Book Day today, 23 April 2024.
South African fund manager Coronation and NGO Ladles of Love are joining forces this year to promote the Love Books campaign. The goal of the campaign is to help 6 000 children in need.
Food security and literacy are inextricably linked, with research showing that children who are hungry struggle to concentrate, reports Bizcommunity.
Coronation is the headline sponsor of the campaign, which kicked off last month but will be celebrated at a special event today. The event starts at 10.15 am at the Little Star Educare ECD in Khayelitsha. Other organisations involved include the Bookery, Leeu Collection, Hyve Group and the SA Canada Chamber of Commerce.
“Anyone who would like to donate will help us provide food for two healthy meals a day to little children living in impoverished communities, and gift them books to assist in their growth and enable them be the best they can be,” says Danny Diliberto, founder and MD of Ladles of Love.
You can sign up to donate R250 to feed a child and provide them with a book to read. You can sign up for a single donation or you can become a monthly or annual donor.
