Cape Town – Eskom’s acting group CEO, Calib Cassim, has remained silent regarding the appointment of a permanent CEO, nearly seven months after the dramatic exit of André de Ruyter.
Cassim revealed that he has not applied for the CEO position and is in discussions to extend his contract as Eskom’s CFO.
“I have not applied in terms of the process of [appointing] the CEO. I think the CFO role still has a lot of work that needs to be done and completed,” he said on. Wednesday.

Cassim stated that discussions about his contract extension are ongoing and that he is focused on the CFO role, which still requires significant work.
Cassim took on the interim group CEO role in February after de Ruyter’s departure amid controversy over his allegations about Eskom’s inner workings and his focus on politics rather than addressing load-shedding.
