Cape Town – Eskom technicians are working to repair a tripped transformer that has disrupted power to 15 mines in Carletonville, Fochville, and Potchefstroom, as well as residential areas.
While essential power has been restored to the mines for limited operations, full restoration is still underway.
The power utility said that safety concerns due to illegal miners in the area are delaying the process, and a timeline for completion cannot be provided at this stage.
“At this stage, we are unable to provide a definitive timeline for the conclusion of the repairs. The safety of our employees and contractors remains our number one priority as they are being threatened by the illegal miners operating in the area contributing to the delay in supply restoration,” it said in a statement.
