Cape Town – The appointment of former South African finance minister Trevor Manuel to a UN expert group addressing the global debt crisis has been hailed as international recognition of South Africa’s talent.
The group’s work will inform the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in 2025.

Manuel joins other prominent experts, including Mahmoud Mohieldin and Paolo Gentiloni.
South Africa has contributed several individuals to UN bodies, such as Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Navi Pillay, underscoring its expertise in global governance.
