Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has alleviated fears that there is a crisis at the South African Revenue Services (SARS), despite the fact that Commissioner, Edward Kiestwetter’s term comes to an end.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the Annual Presidential Golf Challenge at the Atantic Beach Golf Estate in Melkbosstrand. The annual tradition has been taking place in 1999,. Ramaphosa spoke to the media about a number of issues that he addressed during the SONA, and said he asked Kieswetter to extend his stay beyond his original dat eof 30 April, so that a smooth transition can take place.
“We’ve been in discussion, wit the SARS Commissioner, and we’ve focused our attention on the transition. His term is coming to an end, and I’ve asked him to stay on so that we can ensure that a number of the measures that he’s putting in place are bedded down and that a proper transition can then take place. So there’s no crisis, nobody should have any form of angst, it is a process that is being handled and being handled very well.” Ramaphosa said.
He praised Kieswetter for his cooperation, and his commitment and his diligence to his work and said he has been responsible for “reviving SARS from the grips of state capture” and it is operating at its old level of efficiency.
