Cape Town – Eskom has announced that stage 6 load shedding will continue until further notice following a breakdown of a generation unit at Medupi power station.
“Stage 6 load shedding will continue until further notice. Eskom will provide an update as soon as any significant changes occur,” said Eskom in its late announced on Wednesday.
In its earlier statement, Eskom said stage 6 would only be implemented from 16:00 on Wednesday until 05:00 on Thursday, stating this was due to a shortage of generation capacity.
This comes shortly after Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa warned of a dark and cold winter if Eskom’s grid remains constrained.

He said that South Africans must brace themselves for a difficult winter plagued by higher stages of load shedding, adding that they are doing everything they can to avoid a “worst-case-scenario” by ensuring that the power outages did not surpass stage 6.
“We are doing everything possible that we don’t go beyond stage six. If there’s any changes to that, we will communicate it,” he said.
