Cape Town – South Africans will seemingly have to adjust their weekend plans, as Eskom announced the extension of load shedding, with stage 4 to be implemented until 05:00 on Sunday.
Thereafter, Stage 3 will be implemented until 05:00 on Monday.
Eskom said in a statement on Friday that the implementation of load shedding was due to breakdowns.
“Breakdowns of a generating unit each at Kriel, Mujuba and Tutuka power stations over the past 24 hours has necessitated the continuation of loadshedding at stage 4 until Sunday at 05:00,” said the power utility.
Breakdowns and persistent shortages of generation capacity necessitate the continuous

Eskom said that they will provide the outlook of the load shedding stages for the week on Sunday.
It said that it was necessary to extend load shedding in order to replenish depleted emergency generation reserves.
“While some generation units are anticipated to return to service during next week, it is necessary to extend the load shedding to replenish the emergency generation reserves , which have been depleted by extensive utilisation to limit the amount of loadshedding over the past two weeks,” it said.
