Cape Town – The Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (dtic) is hosting a two-day event from September 12-13, 2024, in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Change and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to promote trade and investment between South Africa and Germany.
The event, “Partnering in Business with Germany”, aims to strengthen business ties and support South African small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in accessing the German market.
“The global programme is designed to promote trade and investment linkages between Germany and South Africa,” said the dtic.
In April, a Joint Declaration on Cooperation was signed between the dtic and the German Ministry, formalising a programme to train and mentor emerging South African exporters.
The programme focuses on equipping companies with the skills needed for international business, fostering resilience through diversification, and helping those with limited foreign market experience to internationalise.
The initiative has already enabled 234 South African companies to travel to Germany to engage with potential partners. An annual alumni networking event, first held in 2023, brings together past programme participants to further strengthen these business relationships.
