Cape Town – The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has confirmed that the United States will be represented at the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting in Johannesburg this week, despite the absence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rubio had accused South Africa of anti-Americanism and decided to skip the meeting.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will also attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Cape Town later this month, SABC News reported.
DIRCO confirms that despite the absence of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Johannesburg this week, Washington will be represented at the meeting (likely by lower level officials.)
