Cape Town – Popo Molefe, who was previously removed as the chairperson of Transnet earlier this year but remained on the board, has now resigned, a report says.
This comes in the wake of three other top executives quitting the troubled state-owned logistics company.
Transnet CEO Portia Derby, Transnet Freight Rail CEO Siza Mzimela, and Transnet CFO Nonkululeko Dlamini had all recently resigned.
According to News24, Molefe had initially retained his position as a board member after being removed as chair.
The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) confirmed Molefe’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his contributions, the report said.
Transnet has been facing performance issues with declining rail export volumes, a heavy debt burden, and a loss of critical skills, which has put it under increasing pressure.
The company has also declared multiple force majeures in the past two years.
