Cape Town – A new SA Tourism board is expected to be appointed in four months, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has said.
De Lille said this after she indicated on Wednesday that she will dissolve the current board on Friday.
“In all the circumstances, I believe that good cause exists to dissolve the Board and I shall do so officially through the Government Gazette on Friday, 21 April 2023.
“I will also officially gazette the appointment of a team of three persons to manage the affairs of the Board until the appointment of a new Board. This appointment is to be made under Section 16 (3) (b) of the Tourism Act,” said De Lille.

This comes after outcry from the almost 1 billion rand Tottumhamm Hotspurs sponsorship scandal.

This comes after she advised SA Tourism not to proceed with the proposed controversial R900 million sponsorship of English Premier League club Tottenham, labelling it “unlawful and invalid”.
“There will be an interim board until I can appoint a new board,” De Lille said during an interview with eNCA.
She added: “The process is that I have to advertise for 30 days. Thereafter we need to do the shortlisting and the interviews.
“Thereafter all the recommended board members need to go through a vetting process by the South African Security Agency.
“I suspect it can take anything between three to four months, depending on how quickly the vetting can be done.”
