Cape Town – The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) says it will decide on Eskom’s proposed tariff increases on December 20.
Eskom has applied for a 36% hike for the 2025/26 financial year, amounting to R446 billion, and further increases of 12% and 9% for the following two years.
These proposals have faced public and political opposition, especially after a nearly 13% rise in April.
According to EWN, NERSA spokesperson, Charles Hlebela said that the public has until November 1, 2024, to submit their written comments, providing a month for feedback.
“The main drivers of Eskom’s application are primary energy, operating costs, Independent Power Producers, international purchases and depreciation,” the report quoted Hlebela as saying.
Hlebela said that stakeholders are invited to submit their written comments via email to [email protected].
Eskom’s request includes recovering R8 billion from the 2022 financial year.
