Cape Town – South Africa’s former finance minister Tito Mboweni has rejoined the US investment bank, Goldman Sachs, as a regional advisor.
This comes after Mboweni recently handed his resignation as Member of Parliament (MP) to the National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula after serving for almost 28 years.
Mboweni confirmed his resignation and said he will be returning to the private sector.
“In this capacity, Tito will provide strategic advice to the firm on business development opportunities, with a particular focus on South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa,” the company said in a statement as quoted by Fin24.

However, Mboweni is not a newcomer to the company.
According to Bloomberg, he joined Goldman Sachs in 2010 as an advisor and remained there until 2018, when he returned to government to serve as finance minister.
This isn’t the only good news for the former minister; he’s also been named chairperson and non-executive director of Accelerate Property Fund Ltd.
Mboweni expressed his delight at rejoining the US-based team.
“I am very glad and excited to be back. It has always been my pleasure and privilege to work with the young securities traders at Goldman Sachs,” the report quoted Mboweni as saying.
