Cape Town – Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has announced that the government will collaborate with the private sector to address the country’s energy challenges.
He said that private consultants on the national electricity crisis committee have been enlisted to aid specific power stations, EWN reported.
Ramokgopa highlighted successful power stations, including Kusile, Kendal, Majuba, Matla, Thuthuka, and Duvha, attributing their performance to effective management.
Thuthuka power station, for instance, benefited from a top power station manager and private sector consultants, he said.
The reduction in the intensity and frequency of loadshedding as well as the positive EAF trajectory are the real signs that there is some improvement in the performance of the generation fleet. The focus remains on sustaining this trajectory. pic.twitter.com/GSjwFpTe4Q

“So these are the six power stations that we identified and then in the course of that, we were able to draw additional expertise from the private sector and some of them were then dispatched to work at these power stations,” the report quoted the minister as saying.
According to The Citizen, Ramokgopa also said that while load shedding could persist for some time, the government was actively working to minimise the severity of power cuts.
He highlighted improvements in the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) due to government interventions, leading to a 600-hour reduction in load shedding.
