“The ANC has agreed to some of the DA’s terms, but remember it was not only the DA – all GNU partners were involved. We are talking about comprehensive reviews of expenditure and the decentralisation of authority over ports and rail,” the report quoted an ANC insider as saying.
Initially, the DA opposed the VAT hike, sparking fears of a collapse within the Government of National Unity (GNU). However, ongoing negotiations suggest a deal is near, ensuring the coalition’s stability, the report said.
