Cape Town – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has called on consumers who bought the Gizzu 300Wh and 500Wh power stations to stop using them and return them to the supplier.
This is after Gizzu South Africa announced the voluntary recall of a “limited number” of these power stations because of a fire hazard.
Gizzu South Africa said it received reports of a small number of GIZZU 300Wh and 500Wh Portable Power Stations which had overheated while charging, posing a potential fire risk.
“Our investigation confirmed a temporary battery manufacturing flaw which may have affected a small number of units manufactured between 1 Nov-31 Dec 2022.

According to NCC, the product importer and distributor, Syntech Distribution, informed the organisation of a fire hazard, reported IOL.
“These devices combusted while charging,” the report quoted NCC as saying.
The report said the product was imported from China but sold at various outlets across the country.
However, some of these outlets and online retailers have since removed these products from their catalogues and website.
For the past few years, Eskom has been implementing various stages of load shedding as it struggles to meet the country’s power demands.
