Cape Town – The Hawks have revealed that they are not investigating any politician in connection with claims by former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter that politicians were involved in the corruption at the public utility, as he did not reveal any names.
Scopa met with the SA Police Service, the Hawks and the Special Investigating Unit on Tuesday to determine whether it should initiate an inquiry into the corruption and maladministration allegations made by De Ruyter in the days before he left office.
The Citizen reported that the Hawks said De Ruyter only submitted an official report about Eskom corruption to authorities sometime after he had resigned from the power utility.
Hawks’ Godfrey Lebeya stated that De Ruyter did so a day before he appeared in Parliament last month, News24 reported.

Lebeya was reported as confirming that no politicians were under investigation.
“It is only evidence that is needed to prove that the alleged sabotage is perpetuated by specific individuals,” Lebeya was quoted as saying.
He further revealed the case brought forward by Build One South Africa’s (Bosa) Mmusi Maimane against De Ruyter for the alleged failure to report suspected corruption as required by the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (Precca) is currently being investigated.
“That matter is still under investigation… what needs to be done is that there are certain people that need to be approached so that we get their side of the story for the purposes of presenting the matter to the NPA [National Prosecuting Authority],” he was quoted as saying.
According to EWN, Lebeya said De Ruyter was approached by the Hawks’ Mpumalanga head the day after a televised interview aired.
“Mr De Ruyter declined to meet the officer but referred him to his lawyer, who promised to talk to the officer, but unfortunately, the promise to come back to the provincial head did not materialise,” the report quoted Lebeya as saying.
