Cape Town – Eskom says it has implemented Stage 6 load shedding following the tripping of a generation unit each at Kusile and Kriel power stations.
The power utility made the announcement on Sunday.
“Following the tripping of a generation unit each at Kusile and Kriel power stations, Stage 6 loadshedding was implemented effective 04:16. Eskom appeals to the public to help conserve electricity,” said Eskom in a statement.

Eskom had on Saturday adjusted load shedding from Stage 4, implementing stage 5, which it said would stay until 05:00 on Monday.
This came after it announced on Friday that Stage 4 load shedding would be implemented until 05:00 on Sunday, and Stage 3 until 05:00 on Monday.
According to Eskom, the increase in stages was due to the overnight breakdown of five generating units.
The power utility, however, warned that higher stages of load shedding could be implemented should any further breakdowns occur.
