Cape Town – Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says Mpho Makwana will be resigning from his position as the chairperson and non-executive director of the Eskom board following the October AGM.
Gordhan made the announcement on Monday.
The minister said in a short statement that Makwana would step down at the Eskom AGM scheduled for the end of October.
Makwana will be succeeded by Mteto Nyati, who recently resigned from his roles at Nedbank.
Gordhan thanked him for his contributions during challenging times for Eskom.
He said that the government’s efforts to stabilise and restructure Eskom into three subsidiaries (generation, transmission, and distribution) remain on track, with a commitment to ensuring the utility has the necessary skills and talent for a more secure energy future in South Africa
“Government is committed to ensure that Eskom has the right skills, talent, and experience to support our pursuit of a more secure energy future for South Africans,” Gordhan said.
Makwana expressed gratitude for his time as chairperson.
“I am grateful for the opportunity afforded me by the government to serve a second term as chairperson of the board of directors of Eskom. I wish Eskom and its people success and thank its committed stewards for their unstinting efforts to revive the utility. I thank the Minister for the positive, amicable manner upon which we conclude my tenure,” he said.
