Cape Town — Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille lauded the Cape Town International Airport and the King Shaka Airport on their achievements in claiming awards at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023 held in Amsterdam.
Cape Town International Airport claimed the top prize, winning the Best Airport in Africa as well as the Best Airport Staff in Africa and the Cleanest Airport in Africa.
Meanwhile, King Shaka Airport in Durban won Best Regional Airport in Africa while the InterContinental OR Tambo won Best Airport Hotel in Africa.

“These are remarkable achievements for our airports and proof that we are upholding our status with world-class standards in our airports.
“South Africa remains one of the world’s top tourist destinations and the Department of Tourism stands ready to support and work with all stakeholders to accelerate all programmes that will see the tourism sector increase its contribution to our economy and create more jobs for our people,” De Lille said.

A spokesperson for the Tourism Sector, Zara Nicholson said that its Recovery Plan forms an integral part of South Africa’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.
“Our airports are the first-place visitors see when landing in our country and we must continue to uphold world-class standards that will bring more tourists to South Africa,” Nicholson said.
