Cape Town – Small Business Development Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams is set to host the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC+Africa) in Cape Town from March 13 to 14.
The event, in collaboration with public and private sector partners, aims to promote entrepreneurship as a key driver for economic development in Africa.
GEC+Africa will bring together over 1 500 delegates from 50+ African nations, including startups, small and medium enterprises (SMMEs), investors, policymakers, and organisations supporting entrepreneurship.

Objectives include supporting innovative startups, creating job opportunities, fostering market linkages, attracting global investors for African businesses, and establishing GEC-affiliated organizations in each African country to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The congress will showcase South Africa’s mature startup ecosystem and highlight progress in fostering innovative and successful entrepreneurs on the continent.
“South Africa has one of the most mature start-up ecosystems in Africa, with stronger supporting institutions,” the department said in a statement.
“The Department of Small Business Development will continue to work with its partners to create an enabling environment for the growth and sustainability of small enterprises, and to strengthen the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” the department said.
