Cape Town — The Automobile Association (AA) announced that Bobby Ramagwede was appointed as its new CEO effective from 1 October 2024.
Ramagwede is an experienced campaigner with more than 20 years in senior leadership roles having served as the CEO of Europ Assistance South Africa, leading its South African operations and working to improve operation efficiency, TimesLIVE reported.
Ramagwede is well-educated having received a BCom and BCom Honours from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Insititute of Business Science, while he also holds an MBA from the same institute.
Ramagwede hopes to build on the AA’s strengths and maintain good relationships with partners, clients and members while ensuring the AA continues to provide services to the public.

According to The Citizen, Ramagwede’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the AA, which is now entering its 94th year.
“I am thrilled to join the AA at such a pivotal moment in its history. This unique and outstanding organisation has a talented team that plays an important role in supporting South Africans with their mobility needs,” he said.
“My vision is to harness the existing strengths within the Association and maintain strong relationships with partners, corporate clients, and members to continue providing exceptional products and services while ensuring the AA remains a thriving business,” he added.
AA board chairperson, Sikkie Kagee, was enthusiastic about Ramagwede’s appointment and said he has proven himself to be a good leader and strategist.
“He has a deep understanding of our business and, critically, of driving a customer-focused approach. We are excited about Bobby’s appointment and believe it will greatly benefit our organisation, partners, and members as we move into the future,” Kagee said.
