Cape Town – South African actress Thuso Mbedu beamed with pride, as New York Times announced its list of the top 10 Best Actors of the Year.
The Woman King co-star reacted to the news on her Instagram page and shared the New York Times article.
“We’re in good company,” she captioned the post.
This is not the first time that Mbedu’s work has been recognised on an international stage.
In August, she was named a rising star ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival set to kick off in September.

The New York Times noted Mbedu’s outstanding performance on The Woman King.
“Not only did the film showcase and redouble the might of an established star, but it also made one out of Thuso Mbedu who plays Davis’s -well just treat yourself.
“Here is someone whom we moviegoers deserve to know for years to come? But in what kinds of movies and what sorts of people? Mbedu can act,” wrote Wesley Morris.
The Woman King, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is plotted around true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The story follows Nanisca (Viola), general of an all-female military unit, and Nawi (Thuso), an ambitious recruit, who together fight enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
