Cape Town — South African superstar, Tyla, continues to thrive on the global stage as she recently scooped the Global Impact Award at the Billboard R&B No.1s event.
Tyla burst onto the scene in 2023 with her hit song Water, which has trended across social media and across the world. She has won many hearts for her outgoing persona and the way she carries herself, letting her South African pride show. Her success has led to many incredible moments such as winning a Grammy award and performing at the Olympics opening ceremony.
She has now added another feather to her cap with this award at the Billboard No.1s event. She was welcomed on stage by Heran Mamo, the senior R&B, Hip-Hop and Afrobeats writer at Billboard. Mamo highlighted Tyla’s success so far, especially with Water, which spent 46 weeks at number 1 on the US Afrobeats chart.
Tyla looked incredible in a black mini dress with black and white sandals as she accepted her award.
“Thank you so much, Billboard. Thank you to my team, my label, my family, God, my Tygers. This is crazy, that I’m being honoured tonight, thank you so much.” she said.
“I remember when everyone used to feel like this was so unattainable, especially where I’m from. The fact that I’m able to be here today and just live out a dream that never felt real, it’s just such a beautiful thing to be able to experience,” she added.
She thanked those who listened to her music and embraced culture from all over the world.
