Cape Town – South African-born comedian Trevor Noah has received backlash after a video of him seemingly comforting American actor Will Smith made rounds on social media.
Will made headlines recently after he infamously slapped host Chris Rock who he made a joke about his wife Jada’s bald head during the 94th Oscar Academy Awards ceremony.
Chris cracked a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith’s tightly cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane” and suggesting she appear in a sequel.

In a moment that triggered awkward silence and confusion in the Dolby Theatre, Smith strode up to Rock and slapped him, before returning to his seat alongside Jada and shouting profanities.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who is also an actress, suffers from alopecia, and publicly revealed her diagnosis in 2018.
In a video recently shared by one of America’s online tabloids, Thirty-Mile Zone (TMZ), Noah could be seen embracing Will Smith at the Vanity Fair after-party, which took place after the Oscars.

The video, however, did not impress some tweeps, mainly because Trevor was recently embroiled in an online spat with American rapper Kanye West.
According to Times Live, Trevor highlighted the rapper’s “harassment” towards his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and her new partner Pete Davidson on his late-night show, The Daily Show.

“What she is going through is terrifying to watch, and it shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave. What we’re seeing is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world, unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her,” said Trevor as quoted by the report.
Many tweeps felt that Trevor was a hypocrite for showing support and addressing Will in private while he publicly spoke about and bashed Kanye who suffered and struggled with mental health in public.

Isn’t Kanye uninvited to the Grammys, just because they’re afraid he might do something violent? But Will Smith actually got out of his seat and smacked someone and people applaud him. #BlackTwitter #Oscars #willsmithchrisrock #ChrisRock @Trevornoah #WillSmithAssault #Oscars2022 pic.twitter.com/BwJDTSpBAM

Before I end the day,
Trevor Noah @Trevornoah – I hope you feel like a fraud today. You go after @kanyewest for his violent and abusive behavior, then a week later suck up to Will Smith after he slaps Chris Rock on TV.
Maybe Chris Rock crossed a line, but you promote violence! pic.twitter.com/76rbkMiIdd

Umm…wasn’t it just a week ago that @Trevornoah was preaching about the dangers of toxic masculinity?
I guess it’s different when it’s your buddy and your at a Vanity Fair party.#Oscars #CancelWillSmith #WillSmithAssault https://t.co/1q6haapgcY
