Cape Town — South African media personality, Somizi Mhlongo, has openly shared his thoughts on the South African National Team, proposing that Mamelodi Sundowns could serve as our country’s new national team.
For many years, Sundowns have been the most dominant team in South Africa, winning the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for the last six seasons, and becoming the inaugural winners of the African Football League (AFL)
Sundowns’ success has not translated to the National Team as Bafana Bafana have failed to qualify for the last three versions of the World Cup, not appearing since they hosted the event in 2010, TimesLIVE reported.
Somizi took to his Instagram timeline and suggested that the Sundowns player should be the ones representing South Africa
“Happy Monday everyone. So, I have an idea. I just found out that Sundowns won whatever championship they won. How about Sundowns becomes the national team? I’m not a supporter of Sundowns, but it makes sense. They play well as a team, they know each other and they are good and they are rich. I think it’s a brilliant idea, tell me if I’m wrong.”
“They’ll play when they play locally as Sundowns, but when it’s time for the World Cup Sundowns go as South Africa. Because this other one doesn’t work and that’s the only sporting code that doesn’t make sense,” he added.
