Cape Town – World-renowned actress Julia Roberts made a shocking discovery recently when she found out that her name is not actually Julia Roberts, but it is in fact Julia Mitchell.
Roberts appeared on PBS show Ancestry: Finding Your Roots which is known for it’s shocking revelations. On the show, Roberts appeared with host Henry Louis Gates Jr. who revealed that the man she thought was supposedly her great-great-grandfather, Willis Roberts, had passed away over 100 years before her great-grandfather.
This revelation left Julia Roberts in shock.
“So am I not a Roberts?” she asked.
It was then revealed that her great-grandmother, Rhoda Suttle Roberts, was married to Willis Roberts but further public databases showed that Rhoda was married to a man named Henry McDonald Mitchell Jr.
“So we’re Mitchells?”, she asked, to which Gates Jr. confirmed and said: “You’re Julia Mitchell, you are not a Roberts, biologically.”
Roberts then asked Gates jr. candidly: “Is my head on straight still? Am I facing you?”
It was revealed that Henry Mitchell’s mother lived just “four households” away from Rhoda Roberts.
“On the one hand, I — truly — my mind is blown. And it is fascinating. And on the other hand, there’s part of me that, when I’m calmer, can still wrap my arms around the idea that my family is my family. And I do prefer the name Roberts,” Roberts said.
