Cape Town — Former World Cup-winning Springbok flyhalf, Elton Jantjies, is readying himself for celebrity boxing match this coming weekend.
Jantjies is set to fight against former Springbok and Lions teammate, Lionel Mapoe, in a charity boxing match set to take place on Saturday 30 November at the Station Urban Events Space in Durban. The two men will be fighting to raise funds for the Abbaquar San Dream Centre (ASDC) in KwaZulu-Natal.
In an Instagram post, the ASDC explained the significance of the fight.
“This incredible organisation uplifts the youth and elderly through programs like ballet, karate, dance, and music lessons. They also run feeding schemes and offer youth development programs focused on leadership, personal growth, and career guidance”.
“Their dedication to holistic growth is making a real difference in the community. We’re proud to host this fight in their honor, with all proceeds going directly to support their amazing work. Let’s make an impact together!” it said,

The bout between Jantjies and Mapoe is billed as the celebrity fight on the night, while there is also a main card fight between Colin Hume and Chris Du Pont.
Jantjies has been hard at work ahead of the fight as he has been training with retired boxer Mbulelo Transvaal. He said he has always had a passion for fighting ad it was a dream to get into the ring, The South African reported.
“The sport of boxing is one of my tools to stay sharp on the rugby field and endure a proper high-intensity game,” he said.
Both Jantjies and Mapoe, who have hung up their rugby boots, are looking in good shape ahead of the fight and have done a few promotional gigs ahead of the fight.
