Cape Town – South African YouTube star Gugu Mahlangu-Kanana has revealed that she and her husband, Elvin, saved for five years for their wedding, hinting that the total costs amounted up to R400 000.
Gugu said they paid for the wedding in cash. She broke down the costs of the wedding on her YouTube page after receiving questions on her Instagram.
The questions were mainly about her moving into her new home, whether she still had a job and then came the question of wedding costs.
“My husband paid my lobola in 2019 and since then we started saving, so it was five years of saving. My husband earns a higher salary than me so we took our bonuses and put it towards our saving for the wedding.”
She added that she had made a lot of m0ney from her influencing in the past year, which was also added to the wedding fund.
“Guys, we got married cash; we didn’t take out any loan, and when I tell you, even now, that we are broke but it’s peace of mind that when month-end comes, we don’t owe anyone R300 000 or R400 000,” she said.
Gugu also gave a full breakdown of the wedding costs in the video. Some of the stand-out costs included R30 000 for her dress, R44 000 for the venue, R120 000 for decor, and more than R50 000 for food.
Surprisingly, the influencer revealed that she had left her full-time job and said she felt lighter after having done so. She said the move was the best decision she had ever made and she planned to invest full-time in her career as a content creator.
