Cape Town — Facing xenophobic critics from every corner, Miss SA 2024 finalist Chidimma Adetshina is now dealing with an additional issue: an out-of-context clip of a Nigerian man falsely labelled as her father.
The clip featuring a man who claims to be Chidimma’s father has recently gone viral on social media. In the video, he argues that his children born in South Africa should be recognized as South African citizens, while also asserting their dual citizenship.
Chidimma, who has been subjected to continuous xenophobic attacks due to her parentage, has, however, clarified that the man in question is not her father.
In the clip, the man shares his family’s story without mentioning Chidimma, while also revealing that his children carry his surname.
“I’m a Nigerian, and my wife is a South African, and I spent ten years in South Africa,” he says.
“I met my wife in the UK, she is a South African. In 2010, during the World Cup, we decided that we were going to visit South Africa. At that time, we didnt have children. That was my first time entering South Africa…”
When probed about the nationality of his kids, he says: “It’s called dual citizen; they are both. They are Nigerian kids that have every single right that you have as a South African.”
So Chidimma Adetshina father had an interview. Honestly, I’m more interested in than before.
Chidimma father says he came to South Africa in 2010 on a “tourist visa” got married…. somehow, Chidimma, aka chichi, is 23 years, meaning she was born in 2001.
How is chichi 23… pic.twitter.com/jNsfsbYURF

Mzansi has been abuzz with speculation and commentary about the clip, with many people trying to interpret the man’s message and how it relates to the ongoing controversy surrounding the 23-year-old.
Here’s a glimpse of what people are saying:
This story is strange :
-The father came from the UK with his wife in 2010 on a tourism visa
– He then came again to marry his South African wifeIn other words, he is a bigamist, and his marriage to the South African woman is ILLEGAL,unless he has married both women using… pic.twitter.com/WVAfMiXgJq

It’s a weird timeline. A tourist visa usually gives you a short stay. So dude wants people to believe he arrived at OR, and in a few days he had fallen in love with some SA woman and she fell pregnant and he stayed? Why is he tying himself in knots? 😀. You don’t change a tourist…

Chidimma has since taken to Instagram to set the record straight, saying that the public has been misled by false information.
“It has been brought to my attention that there is an alleged interview going around about my father. The individual in question claiming and impersonating to be my dad is NOT MY FATHER,” she said.
