Cape Town — Miss South Africa runner-up, Bryoni Govender, is set to jet off to El Salvador as she will be representing the country at the Miss Universe Pageant, as she embarked on an official send-off.
Bryoni finished runner-up to Natasha Joubert at the Miss South Africa pageant in August this year. Natasha was ineligible to attend the Miss Universe pageant, having represented SA in 2020, and as such, Bryoni will go as the runner-up. Bryoni previously said she was excited to represent South Africa, becoming the first South African of Indian Heritage since Kerishnie Naiker to represent South Africa at the pageant.
“I cannot describe how excited I am to start this Miss Universe journey and, as this new chapter unfolds, I am fully committed to my support of women equality in South Africa,” she said.
Bryoni attended a special farewell event at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club’s Old Oak venue in Gauteng. The farewell party revealed her costumes for the global event and she also spoke about how important the occasion was for her, The South African reported.
“I have found myself outside my comfort zone multiple times and I absolutely love it because I have grown immensely. I am committed to continuing the hard work whilst enjoying the entire journey and remaining authentic to who I am.”
She also took to her Instagram timeline and uploaded a few glamorous snaps ahead of her big farewell. She explained how grateful she has been for the support and how she can’t wait to represent South Africa on the biggest stage.
“As I sit here ready to depart my heart is filled with such a sense of gratitude for this opportunity, to be able to represent my beloved South Africa on the biggest stage in the Universe! 🇿🇦👑 All I can say is,”Thank YOU”! Thank you for allowing me to have this incredible responsibility, thank you for believing in me, thank you for making me feel seen, heard and loved! I will carry each and every one of you in my heart! 🇿🇦❤️🇿🇦” she said.
Miss Universe will take place on the 18th of November 2023 and will be available for streaming online. South African broadcast details have yet to be confirmed.
