Cape Town — South African media personality Bonang Matheba says she wants to launch her own talent agency in an effort to hone and develop South African talent.
Bonang was speaking with Thando Thabethe on 947’s HerStory Unplugged where she revealed that she wanted to do this to provide a hub for upcoming talent to nurture their skills because there’s no governance in the industry.
Thando had asked Bonang about why there is an apparent lack of presenters and TV stars coming through the industry.
“I think there is a dwindling of careers in entertainment in general. I think the creative industry is not where it was when I came about and that’s why it feels like are any stars because the mechanisms of creating stars is not there anymore,” she said.
Bonang touched on some of the support that she receives locally and added that her biggest support came women.
“Women are the biggest consumers of my wine, they’re the biggest consumers of my brand so absolutely. I wouldn’t be Bonang if I didn’t have an audience. How Bonang came up, those avenues have changed a little bit and that’s why I want to create the agency to help and become a Superman for other people.”
