Cape Town – South African rapper Boity Thulo recently discussed her strong spiritual practice in an interview on Metro FM with T’Bo Touch.
She emphasised the importance of being spiritually grounded in the competitive world of showbiz.
Boity acknowledged that the entertainment industry can be ruthless and soul-draining, prompting her to focus on strengthening her spiritual foundation.
“Having gone through various types of spiritual journeys, I think definitely being in this industry pushed me to harness and make my spiritual foundation even stronger.
“We both know how ruthless this industry can be. Our industry is a soul snatcher, you have to do extra work when you’re moving in the space, because you don’t know what people are doing,” she said.
She revealed that she identifies as a sangoma, a traditional healer, but hasn’t actively practiced yet.
Boity explained that the path of a sangoma involves consulting with ancestors and that she’s waiting for that calling to fully manifest.

“I am a sangoma but I haven’t been physically practising. It’s not a part of my journey as yet. How it works with ancestors is that they need you to sit down and start the work of consulting and that’s the path that they put you on, then it will come,” she said.
Despite initial surprise from fans in 2016 when she announced her intention to become a sangoma, Boity remains committed to her calling and aims to educate and dispel misconceptions about her spiritual journey.
She’s unashamed of her practices and even openly engages in traditional rituals associated with her calling.
