Cape Town – Reality TV star Thato Montse has become a household name after appearing on the show “Real Housewives of Cape Town” (RHOCT). Montse found herself at the centre of a lot of drama during the show’s first season.
Speaking as guest on “Engineer Your Life” with Lungelo KM, Montse opened up on her previous abusive marriage, her time on the show, and on finding love with her new partner.
Montse said she suffered heavy abuse at the hands of her ex-husband, Mohammed, which started after their son was born.
“I had no identity of my own, he used the fact that he had money to strip me off my identity by isolating me and beating me up in our fancy estate home in Fresnaye, Cape Town,” she said.
She revealed that the abuse was so bad that she left as soon as she was financially stable, as she could not endure any more of being his ‘punching bag’.
Montse also admitted that she and Mohammed had a non-existent sex-life, which led her to find happiness elsewhere.

“Because I was so unhappy, I cheated on Mohammed multiple times as a means to find happiness elsewhere. I told Mohammed that I am going to Woolworths and then I went to get married with my Namibian prince,” she said.
Montse said she is far happier with her current man, who is an ANC politician. She said that being on Real Housewives of Cape Town (RHOCT) has made dating easier.
“I was single until the Durban July weekend last year, where I met my new man who is an ANC politician. We met at the foyer of a hotel in Umhlanga and ever since we now live together in Harties and are building a life together.”
The couple attended the Basadi in Music Awards last year for their first public appearance.
M0ntse also touched on her time on RHOCT, saying that her Cape Town franchise show was fare better than the others, beating them in views regularly.
“We buried them, no one talks about Real Housewives of Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg anymore. Cape Town had the highest viewership and we were trending every week,” she said candidly.
