Cape Town – Radio personality, Anele Mdoda, took to social media recently to question Bolt after a client claimed that her friend had allegedly been raped by the driver of the e-hailing giant.
The client took to Twitter to share a picture of the alleged rapist and claimed that he strangled her friend “half to death and took her virginity”.
“A Bolt driver raped my friend last night, he strangled her half to death and took her virginity. Bolt doesn’t care about our safety, their Instagram page is filled with people complaining about assault and they have done nothing about it,” said the Twitter user.
He said if she keeps screaming he will snap her neck, so she must co operate if she wants to live. Then continued strangling her while raping her. This is what Bolt is allowing to drive us around.

Anele then took to Instagram to share a lengthy video clip of her 947 FM’s breakfast show, Anele And The Club, with co-host Frankie Du Toit engaging on the alleged rape incident.

“Over the weekend, we received multiple messages on social media regarding the safety of using e-hailing service Bolt, and thought we’d do our own investigation to get to the bottom of it,” said Anele.
Anele said that incidents by Bolt drivers were reported every week on social media platforms and nothing was being done about it.

She read Bolt’s public relations manager Nthabiseng Mokoena’s response to the alleged incident on her radio show.
“Bolt has genuinely been agonised by the many issues that have transpired and we are not thrilled by the fact that people perceive that our services are established to violate their sense of safety or their freedom to move entrenched in our constitution,” said Nthabiseng.
“We would like to reiterate that safety on our platform and that Bolt condemns any violence, intimidation or extortion directed towards passengers,” she said.
Earlier, Anele took to Twitter to invite the CEO of the e-hailing service, Markus Villig, for an interview on her radio show.

The e-hailing giant declined the interview.
“Hi Anele, we appreciate your interest to engage with us. Unfortunately, we will have to decline the interview invite as we would like to take time to address the many issues raised by the e-hailing passengers,” said Bolt.
