Cape Town — South Africa’s jack-of-all-trades, Andile Mpisane, laced up his boots and stepped onto the pitch for Royal AM this weekend as they played Cape Town City.
Royal AM, which stands for Royal Andile Mpisane, is owned by South African businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize, who appointed her son Andile to be the chairperson. Andile often finds himself in the headlines for many different reasons, and this time, it was for football.
Many people believe that Andile has received the opportunities he has so far due to his mother’s position of power and believe he has abused that power to showcase his football skills by inserting himself into the lineup.
He found himself in the starting lineup for Royal AM’s 1-1 draw against Cape Town City and was trending across social media for his performances. He took to Instagram to talk about his “Champagne Pass” he made during the game, while also calling himself “Expensive 10”

Football journalist, Lorenz Kohler, took to X and gave a detailed breakdown of Andile’s performance against Cape Town City, where he played 51 minutes, made 4/5 passes but failed to complete any of his 4 crosses, and also lost the ball 8 times. He simply wrote ‘Chairman”
Meanwhile, Royal AM’s coach, John Maduka, explained why Andile started the game, and why he had to substitute him, explaining that it was part of the game.
“The chairman himself, we gave him a chance. You know he played whatever. He did whatever he was supposed to do, then you had to make a change to put someone else.”
“I mean it’s part of football. It’s part of the game. Things like that you know will happen here and there. It’s just a normal situation whereby you know if he’s given a chance to play, he plays,” he said.
