Cape Town – Cape Town’s renowned festive lights were switched on in congenial style for the first time since 2019, with an audience of 80 000 people watching on in awe, as the festival season ignites the city.
The city’s mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, stood on the stage of City Hall, as he turned on Town’s lights on Sunday evening, signifying light after a dark – a message of hope that many Capetonians and the rest of South Africa may have needed to revitalise their spirits.
There was also a display of great music that precluded the turning on of the lights with artists such as Emo Adams, Will Linley, Mi Casa, Abavuki and Zakes Bantwini to mention a few.
Taking to Twitter, Hill-Lewis praised the continuing of the Cape Town Tradition.
“What a great concert and wonderful to see 80 000 Capetonians, from every corner of the city, coming together again!
“Last night we continued the Cape Town tradition of launching the festive season with a switching on of the festive lights,” Cape Town’s mayor said.
