Cape Town – Former radio host and Idols SA judge, Unathi Nkayi, recently appeared on a new podcast called Uncancelled, hosted by industry colleague Gareth Cliff.
UnCancelled was launched by Gareth and Eugene Khoza to be a “new current affairs and entertainment series that will open the floodgates on pent-up views about life without electricity to hilarious human behaviour”.
At the start of the show, Cliff introduced Unathi and says: “there are a lot of things people want to know about you” and the two start off by talking about her release from Kaya FM, her decision to sue, and how her friendship with Somizi broke down.
Unathi revealed that three days after being told she had been suspended (from Kaya FM), she received another email at 10:00 notifying her that she had been fired. Six minutes later, a press release was sent out to the media.
“First person I call is my mom,” said.
Her mother was adamant she should sue but she did not want to.
She then talked to her father, who phoned entertainment lawyer David Feinberg.
“David calls me, he says, ‘Mom and dad have spoken to me. They’ve told me you don’t want to sue. They are telling me that you are going to sue. So, we’re suing’,” said Unathi.
Her father also revealed that they should wait a year for them to turn on each other.
Unathi said: “So when they fired Sibongile, my dad said, ‘Now you can go’.

In another segment of the Podcast, Unathi revealed that people wanted her to clarify “Kaya, Idols and Somizi.”
She said: All four of us were thick as thieves, and Thomas and I got divorced. You (Gareth) and Randall didn’t choose sides. You never choose sides, but he did. Unathi then reveals that Somizi was “talking smack about her” on his reality show because he wanted her divorce to play out on his reality show.
Cliff asked her whether she and Somizi still had a relationship and she responded emphatically to say: : “No, that’s when I said we’re not friends.”

Just watched ep 1 #Uncancelled, quite a few gems from Unathi, oh and she’s so hot. She and G had great chemistry, owed to them being friends but ai I’m not yet sold on Gareth’s interview style. Something amiss, but I’m sure it’ll get better.

I love Unathi maan. This was such a hilarious, emotional and honest adult conversation. Unsta has always been such an unapologetic opinionated power house & for some odd reason people dislike her for that.
Can’t wait for the next episode of #uncancelled https://t.co/bWmD8VSmQu— Live. Read. Travel (@izwe_libanzi) March 2, 2023
