Cape Town — South Africa’s rising global superstar, Tyla, has continued her rise to the top of the music charts after her hit song, Water, jumped into the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100.
Tyla’s meteoric rise has seen her gain great international recognition, largely due to the success of Water. The news of her latest achievement spread like wildfire over social media, with Tyla acknowledging her achievement on her X account.
Water is only the second South African song in history to enter the US Billboard top 10, following Hugh Masekela’s hit song, Grazing the grass, that topped the charts in 1968.

According to The South African, Tyla revealed the inspiration behind the song. “I heard the song and instantly fell in love. It’s me telling a guy to stop the talk; I want to see what you’ve got to offer. It’s kind of a naughty song but it’s the song of the summer,” she said.
The infectious beats and Tyla’s bold lyrics have struck a chord with audiences, solidifying ‘Water’ as a must-listen anthem. The song has led to a Grammy nomination, and she hopes she can move onto even greater success beyond the hit song, with the star set to release her next song, called On and On, set for pre-sale release on 1 December.
