Cape Town — South Africa’s music star, Tyla, will add some South African flavour as she was chosen as one of the Costume Institute Benefit Host Committee members at the 2025 Met Gala.
Last year, Tyla stole the show in a sand evening gown as she started her ascent to stardom. She has established herself as one of the biggest names in the music industry and has won major music awards including SAMAs and EMAs.
Following her outstanding appearance last year, Tyla was announced as one of several high-profile names on the list of hosts for the star-studded event.
The theme for this year’s event is “Tailored for You” and is “a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” Vogue Magazine said.
The event will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and the legendary Anna Wintour, while NBS legend, Lebron James will be the Honorary Chair.
The Hosting Committee is comprised of some of the biggest men and women in sport, music and fashion. Joining Tyla are American Olympic champions, Simone Biles and Sha’Carri Richardson, music stars Usher, Andre 3000 and Janelle Monae and actress Regina King.
According to The South African, Tyla’s inclusion on the host committee is a nod to her growing influence in the fashion world. She has shown her eye for fashion and caught the eye of some fashion heavyweights, and the invitation allegedly came from Anna Wintour herself.
She’s proving that with talent, hard work, and a killer sense of style, anything is possible. We can’t wait to see what she wears and how she represents South Africa on the global stage.
