Cape Town – Newly elected ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula was bashed for service delivery failures after pictures of him wearing one of the most expensive watches in the world circulate on social media.
The former transport minister was elected as ANC secretary-general at the party’s 55th National Elective Conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre in December.
According to IOL, the Rolex GMT Master 2 Pepsi watch is estimated to be between R182 200 and R178 700 from a credible Rolex retailer like The Vault.
However, depending on the model, resellers like Peter Machlup sell the Rolex GMT Master 2 Pepsi 2016 for R721 059.38.
Mbalula reportedly dressed in his most expensive gear to celebrate his new position in a ceremony hosted by King of Amampondomise, Luzuko Matiwane, the report said.
Viva African National Corruption !!!!

It’s sad , all African leaders behave like Dunderheads .— MasimbaMedia✍? (@MasimbaNews) March 22, 2023
Tweeps reacted to the picture, with some seeing it as a sign of “looting” and “corruption”, while others argued it was possible that he had opted for the cheaper version of the Rolex.
Mbalula has been heavily criticised for the bad state of the country’s roads, especially after the Pongola crash that killed 21 people, 19 of whom were children.
He was accused of not heeding a plea by a Pongola resident in 2019 asking for the department’s intervention on the N2.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter
Hoping for that from #YourANC? With a slogan that says “a looter continuous”? ???
