Cape Town — Radio Host Anele Mdoda has lambasted a job advert for a live-in domestic worker that would earn a measly salary of only R2 500 per month.
The advert was originally posted to Facebook but made its way to Twitter.
The ad called for a full-time live-in domestic worker aged between 33 and 45.
“Looking for a stay-in helper for my 8-year-old daughter. Please any recommendations? Salary: R2500. Age: 33-45.”

The ad prompted a lot of interaction, with social media users expressing outraged over then salary offered.
Anele showed her disdain at the advert, calling it “evil”.
“Hayi andazi, who is this 33-year-old that must earn R2 500 a month. We have to come to terms with the fact that we can’t afford full-time nannies. This is evil,” she wrote.

According to The South African, on 1 March 2023, the Department of Employment and Labour gazetted a domestic worker minimum wage increase from R23.19 to R25.42 per hour.
When broken down to 160 hours of work per month, the monthly wage is R4067,20.
@Anele not everyone has the same income as you. That’s what she can afford so please respect that.
