Cape Town — South African actress Thando Thabethe scooped a surprise award at the recently-concluded South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).
The star won the award for Best Actress in a TV comedy for her role in ‘How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower’ and she admitted that winning the award came as a bit of a surprise to her, The South African said.
“I don’t think anyone can expect it, right? The people I was up against are very good — Tali’s Baby Diary is a popular show. So I think I was in great company. It would be presumptuous for me to think ‘It’s yours,’ but I was delighted when it was,” she said.
Thando took to X to celebrate her win and pointed out that she was not only an award winning actress, but an award winning radio host too.
“A Safta Award winning actress but also a radio award winning radio host. God did that!!! I’m sooo sooo sooo happy”

Thando’s acting skills have been on show this year and she’s been rightly rewarded for her ability as she was was also nominated for Best Actress in a TV drama for her role in season 3 of ‘Housekeepers.’
“I think that’s awesome. An actor dreams of having range, and to be nominated in two completely different genres speaks to that. I was in love with the character I played in Housekeepers, also in season 3.” she said.
Thando hinted that she has some exciting endeavours planned for the future, including a second season of her reality show, Unstoppable Thabooty.
“I can’t mention yet. We are possibly looking at a season 2 of Unstoppable Thabooty, and there is another show which may go into development soon.”
