Cape Town – As people across the globe take on the new year, many have set up their new year’s resolutions, some taking to social media to share their goals. However, South African gospel singer, Winnie Mashaba has warned against this.
She encouraged people to rather share their future plans and goals with God, adding that oversharing future endeavours on social media seemed like trying too much to get validation or impress people they didn’t know.
Going down memory lane, the gospel singer reflected on the past when she used to go out of her way to create an image that would bring excitement to her timeline.
“There was a time when some of us were living our lives to impress or prove ourselves to others. We wasted our precious times for nothing.

“There are still times when we think we owe others explanations about our very personal lives. Do they explain to us about their personal issues? Again we are busy selling ourselves,” she wrote on her Instagram post.
She said people should be careful about sharing too much of themselves on social media, as they didn’t know the person behind the account.
“Disclosing all our future plans and all other resolutions here on social media is like digging our own graves because here we don’t know who’s who.”
Fans and followers took to the comments sections to thank the singer for her wise words. Some even revealed that they had learned the hard way to stop oversharing.

And Mohlakon said: “Well said.”
