Cape Town – South African musician Bongekile Simelane, better known as “Babes Wodumo”, has cleared the air after a viral video of her hurling insults at her mother-in-law set Twitter abuzz.
The “gqom queen” recently went on Instagram Live and slammed her mother-in-law for allegedly abandoning her husband, Mandla Maphumulo, also known as Mampitsha, when he was only 3-days-old.

A clip from her Instagram Live went viral on social media, attracting the attention of Twitter users who were concerned about the musician.
In the clip, Babe Wodumo is heard comparing Mampitsha’s mom to a dog. She’s also heard threatening to beat her up.

Calming everyone down, Babes Wodumo later took to her Instagram page again to release a statement to “set the record straight”.
She said that owing to the late release of her new EP, Crown, she felt the need to capture people’s attention, and the video achieved exactly that.
It was all part of a publicity stunt, she claimed.

“Greetings, Due to the late release of ’The Crown EP’ I had to draw your attention to the point where I give you some taste of part 2 of the Sponge Wodumo’s story, the one you’ll saw just before ’Uthando Lodumo’ was shown on Showmax.”
“I’m sorry to those whom I might have offended and due to the strong language I had no choice but to do it around that time to protect my younger fans. I love ya’ll to the point I had to raise the Crown before I presented it to you’ll. Thank you,” reads the statement.
